This is a tremendous oversimplification which surely (and justifiably) deserves criticism – however, if all patients with TC > 8 mmol / L or LDL-C > 6 mmol / L were referred to specialized lipid clinics, we believe the search for FH patients would be 50% complete. Certainly, a more comprehensive examination is warranted for each patient with total cholesterol > 7.5 (and without doubt, > 8) mmol / L or LDL-C > 5.5 (and without doubt, > 6) mmol / L.
